Note 1
Please note that there have been two separate institutions by the name of “Patten University”: The current Patten University (formerly named American Graduate University) is separate and distinct from the prior institution by the same name. The prior institution (now closed) was active from 1944 to 2021, and was not owned or controlled by PEF from 2012 until its closure. Student records from the prior Patten institution have changed custody as many as four times. While PEF prides itself in maintaining as complete records as possible, these records custody changes have contributed to some gaps and anomalies in student records. The prior Patten University offered both online and on-ground programs to domestic and international students. Note that transcripts from this institution vary significantly in format – even for students active during the same time period – due to systems changes, varying delivery methods, partnership programs, and changes of control of the institution. For more information on the prior (now closed) institution called Patten University, see Catalog 2007-2009, Catalog 2010-2012, Catalog 2014-2015, and Catalog 2018.

Due to the rich history and complexity of the prior Patten University, PEF can only provide transcripts and does not offer additional verification services.

Note 2
Prison University Project was a non-profit organization that partnered with the prior Patten University to deliver an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts degree program to incarcerated students at San Quentin State Prison. Prison University Project became Mount Tamalpais College in 2020. Student records 2020 and earlier are in the custody of PEF, while later records are held by Mount Tamalpais College.
